![]() The purpose of Carroll Jones' video tapes is to bring you what the great painters of the peak of the Renaissance period have left for us to absorb and to grasp at its classic spirit. It took at least ten thousand years from the cave period to the 16th century for men to be able to record nature's image on a panel or canvas. By the 16th century the theories of light and shade, perspective, color, composition and all the elements to create a masterful work had been solved and the science of painting, sculpture and architecture was basically set. The chain of tradition has been broken in most of our educational institutions today and Mr. Jones hopes to revive some of the missing links. "Echoes of the Renaissance" is a complete video guide to a school of fine arts. You will own a basic step by step six hour course to Renaissance painting, always there for playback and reference. Jones' school starts with three tapes, each two hours long
About the Artist Mr. Carroll N Jones Jr. is a graduate of the Yale School of Fine Arts and has spent his life studying the techniques of painting and teaching the fundamentals of art. His real life experience of dissection to learn the anatomy of both human and animals led to the two and one half year project of illustrations for the book "Atlas of Amputations" by Dr. Donald Slocum at Walter Reed Hospital. In 1945, also at Walter Reed Hospital, Carroll helped to make and perfect the color for the first artificial plastic hand for amputees. Then Captain Jones was discharged enabling him to pursue an art career in New York City. While at Merrill Anderson Advertising Agency as Art Director, he free lanced as medical artist for Life Magazine. This contact led to paintings for Life in many of their series; "Epic of Man," "Gay Old Days" and "The Russian Revolution." He also had the pleasure of illustrating for "The Saturday Evening Post", "Readers Digest", Colliers Magazine" and numerous others. Carroll started an art school in New Jersey to teach his knowledge of fine arts to aspiring students preparing for college, semi professionals and professional artists and left the illustration world in New York City. When not teaching he completed a back log of private commissions for many now gracing private collections, museums, and historical societies, In 1971 he pulled up stakes and moved to Vermont for a freer schedule to paint the subjects that for so long had tugged at the back of his mind. Teaching again became a part of his agenda which eventually led to the idea of putting a school of fine arts on video tape. "Echoes of the Renaissance" was born. Carroll has chosen two masters of Renaissance painting, Titian and Van Dyke, for their extraordinary style and technique. In "Echoes of the Renaissance" he will explain and illustrate to you 15th and 16th century method of under painting, glazing, and over painting. Though the materials used by the Renaissance painters are not readily available today, we can use the same methods and get the same results. |
